Welcome to the Postdoctorate Preparation Workshop
Hosted by the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the CU Colorado Diversity Initiative

Postdoctorate Preparation Workshop
at the National Center for Atmospheric Research
Co-Sponsored by the Colorado Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate
Boulder, Colorado
16-18 April 2008 (Starts mid afternoon on April 16th)

The National Center for Atmospheric Research and the University of Colorado Diversity Initiative are pleased to announce a workshop engaging graduate students in a series of career planning activities for the express purpose of preparing for rewarding and productive postdoctoral opportunities in a broad spectrum of science and engineering fields. The program will include presentations and panel discussions by funding agency representatives, successful postdoctoral fellows, early career scientists, engineers and university faculty. The presenters will describe strategies to identify postdoctoral positions that are best suited to long-term career objectives, and will work with participants to enhance their competitiveness in this market. The workshop is designed with ample opportunities for participants to network with presenters.

Eligibility: Graduate students who will receive their Ph.D. in the physical,
environmental, atmospheric or related science and engineering fields* prior to June 2010 are invited to participate, particularly those from populations that are underrepresented in these disciplines. Students must be US citizens or permanent residents.

The meeting will be held at the Mesa Lab of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado. Support for travel and living expenses will be provided to participants.

We seek nominations from AGEP project directors or faculty advisors for graduate students nearing the completion of their Ph. D. to participate in this workshop. Nominations, including the candidate's curriculum vitae, a 1-page description of the candidate's thesis research, and a letter supporting the nomination should be forwarded as e-mail attachments to asp-pdoc-prep@asp.ucar.edu before Deadline has passed.

Organized by:
