Scientist I Hire
We seek applicants to fill one new position at NCAR. If you are a recent Ph.D. scientist with interest in high-performance computing, especially those technologies supporting atmospheric science research, and are ready for a challenging scientific career, we'd like to hear from you. Candidates will be expected to submit:
- a statement of research interest,
- a curriculum vitae, and
- a list of referees whom we may contact for letters of recommendation.
Applicants will be evaluated based on their accomplishments and their potential to become leaders in areas relevant to the NCAR mission.
We particularly seek applicants with expertise well-matched to the following priority areas:
Technologies and techniques for petascale computing:
- massively parallel algorithms
- optimization for multi-core systems
- accelerator technologies, such as GPUs and FGPAs
- software engineering for parallel applications
Building a national cyberinfrastructure:
- fault tolerant and reliable computing techniques
- system virtualization technology
- Grid-based service-oriented architectures
REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
Education and Experience:
- Ph.D. Degree in computer science; or
- Ph.D. Degree in electrical or computer engineering; or
- Ph.D. Degree in a related science field.
- Postdoctoral experience is desirable but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Scientific and leadership skills to develop and coordinate research programs.
- Demonstrated excellence and productivity in scientific research, as evidenced in refereed journal and conference publications.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective scientific collaborations inside and outside the organization.
- Ability to write scientific manuscripts and present results in seminars and conferences.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Advanced skills in areas needed for the selected research area(s).
- Ability to write proposals for research opportunities and to manage awarded projects.
- Commitment to the value of a work environment that is culturally diverse and involves varied scientific disciplines and approaches.
This recruitment period will begin Monday, March 3, 2008. The Application deadline: Monday, March 31st, 2008 at 3:00 p.m., Mountain Standard Time (MST).
