Research Reviews
The Purposes:- Educate each other
- Get to know each other (and collaborate?)
- Help each other
- Two talks each meeting
- Meetings every two weeks (or more often if needed)
- One hour meetings, so 30 min for each person
- The audience is diverse. Present so that everyone can understand most of your talk.
- Concentrate on why you are investigating this topic: What makes it interesting or important?
- Give a good review of essential background information, covering perhaps 1/2 the talk.
- Move to the details of your own investigation, after you have provided this introduction.
- Plan to talk for a maximum of 20 min. (This is hard!)
- Encourage questions and interaction
- Stop the speaker if he/she isn't communicating with you, and ask for more background
- Ask questions, make comments, and participate. (Be aware of the 10-min allocation for discussion.)
- Provide feedback: What worked, what didn't?
- Follow up afterward if there are opportunities for collaboration or discussion
