Summer Colloquium 2006
This year the Advanced Study Program is pleased to offer two summer colloquia:
1) The Art of Climate Modeling - June 4-16, 2006
This course will introduce students to the theory and intent of climate modeling while offering practical, hands on experience with a comprehensive climate model. In addition, students will be exposed to a broad range of scientific problems that can be tackled using climate models.
2) The Challenge of Convective Forecasting - July 10-21, 2006
With recent scientific and technological advances in understanding the challenges facing convective weather prediction using NWP models, students will learn about the opportunities available to future researchers. Topics include the phenomenology of mid-latitude convection and convection systems, issues of convective initiation, the parameterization of microphysical, turbulent, and boundary layer processes, convective predictability, and techniques of data assimilation and high-resolution ensemble forecasting.
